Phase 1

  • During the first phase, you can expect your tan to develop over the normal 8 to 12 hour period.
  • This is your base colour.

Phase 2

  • The second phase of your tan will continue to develop even after showering!
  • The full development period of the Erythrulose is 24 hours so expect a deeper tan to develop over the next day.
  • This development process ensures a long lasting natural tan that will fade evenly.

Post Tan Tips

  • The full two phase development is 24 hours but you are able to shower after 8-10 hours. Even after showering, your tan will continue to develop.
  • Moisturise daily
  • Top up with The Tan Lab Gradual Tan to prolong the life of your professional tan.
  • Avoid soaking in hot water or swimming for long periods of time – this will cause your tan to fade quicker
  • Shaving or waxing will remove your tan – ensure this is done prior to spray tan application
  • Remember there is no sun protection in our sunless tanning products so please ensure sunblock is used when going into the sun.

What to Expect

  • Our therapists have been fully trained in the art of spray tanning – you are in good hands!
  • Disposable underwear and cap will be provided
  • We will discuss your skin tone and the depth of tan suggested (this will depend on your base colour or natural skin tone)
  • The Tan Lab offers Solutions to suit every skin tone. Often clients are nervous and have heard about, seen or experienced disastrous spray tans. You can be assured that The Tan Lab will deliver predictable results every time!
  • Barrier Cream will be applied to dry areas such as ankles, knees and elbows.  This will prevent your tan from developing darker on these areas.
  • The spray tan process takes a few minutes and you will be guided as to where and how to stand and move while the tan therapist and machine do the rest.
  • The tan will not take long to dry and generally you should expect to be manually dried for a minute or two with a fan or dryer. Soon after, you will be ready to get dressed. Remember to wear loose, dark clothing!
  • The whole process is about 15 minutes and you will be left with a gorgeous touch of instant colour and a beautiful fragrance while your tan begins to develop.

Your professional tan will take up to 15 minutes. Applying the tan at home may take longer depending on how carefully you do it and how many places you apply it to.

We use the best quality pharmaceutical grade DHA and Erythrulose, as well as other advanced ingredients in a high quality base lotion. These ingredients ensure our tanning products are easy to apply, will not streak and will fade naturally. Erythrulose is less drying too, which means your tan will fade evenly. Remember not to go too dark as this may result in an uneven colour that will look unnatural.

Yes! Now even the fairest of skins can achieve a great, natural looking tan with our revolutionary tanning ingredients. There is the right colour for every skin tone. You can get that sun kissed look even if you are fair.

Wear loose, dark coloured clothing and flip flops or no shoes, if possible.

We use the highest quality eco certified ingredients but if you are concerned about possible allergies or reactions to the tanning solution, please notify your sunless tanning technician prior to your tan. They can do a patch test on a small area of the skin prior to a full body session. The same would apply to retail items when using them at home, do a patch test and go from there.

It is normal for there to be a slight sticky feel immediately following the professional or home application. Remember the active ingredients are derived from sugar which is sticky! We have used the best possible ingredients to ensure sufficient drying time without drying your skin.

Development time is 8 to 12 hours for the first phase. It’s recommended that you shower after those hours. Once you have showered your tan will continue to develop as the second phase gets to work.

It will last 7 to 10 days if you look after your tan. Try not to scrub your skin too much as this will assist in removing your tan. Try topping up with The Tan Lab’s Gradual Tan to keep an ongoing glow and always pat yourself dry after a shower or bath.

No. You will not be protected from the UV rays and damaging effects of the sun. Please ensure you apply sunblock if you are exposed to the sun.

You should avoid any activity that will cause you to sweat for the first 8 hours, because any moisture soon after applying the tan can cause streaking. You should also try to stay out of the rain!

We do not suggest a tan in the first trimester of pregnancy and during breast feeding. It would be advisable to speak to your doctor regarding any concerns you may have.

Yes. Our products will work on the affected areas. It is important to remember that areas of the skin that are lighter will be tan to a different shade than the unaffected skin areas, therefore they will remain different colours. While both areas do achieve a sunless tan they will appear ‘two toned’ when finished. It is suggested to speak to a professional who will demonstrate how to apply and blend on lighter areas only. All in all – there will be less of a difference between the light and darker skin.

No, the tanning treatment will not cover up the freckles completely either. What is darker will stay darker and what is lighter stays lighter, however the contrast between the two will be less, giving you a more even skin tone. The Tan Lab Gradual Tan would be a really good place to start for freckled skin.
